About the Mangrovedopsi Foundation
Mangrovedopsi is a Dutch foundation devoted to restoring and protecting mangrove ecosystems. What began as a university project has become a long-term commitment to bring people closer to nature through mangrove adoption and restoration. Our focus is simple and clear: help restore mangrove forests, support the people who live alongside them, and make it easy for people in the Netherlands and across Europe to take part in this work in a meaningful way.
We believe that when you adopt a mangrove tree, you are doing more than supporting a project from afar. You are becoming part of a living coastal landscape in Semarang, Indonesia – a place where communities, sea life, and mangrove roots are all closely connected.
Why mangrove restoration matters
Mangrove forests are among the most productive and important coastal ecosystems on Earth. By restoring and protecting them, we help:

Where we work today
In close collaboration with KeMANGI, a specialized organization in Indonesia, Mangrovedopsi currently supports the planting of mangrove trees in Semarang. This is our primary restoration site for now, with the intention to expand to other regions over time. By standing with Mangrovedopsi, you help nurture marine and coastal ecosystems and add an extra layer of protection for the communities living along these shores.
Connecting Europe with Semarang
Mangrovedopsi was founded in the Netherlands, but our work is rooted in Semarang’s coastline. Your decision to adopt a mangrove from Europe directly supports the planting and care of young trees in Indonesia. Local partners prepare the site, plant and tend the seedlings, and monitor how the area develops over time. From a distance, you help make this work possible.

KeMANGI offers a program that invites individuals, institutions, and communities to take part in mangrove rehabilitation through adoption. Through this collaboration, Mangrovedopsi helps connect people who want to make a difference with hands-on restoration work in Semarang. Together, we focus on environmental conservation, climate resilience, coastal protection, and long-term ecosystem health.
