Meet the founder

‘A single idea can grow into a forest of change. Mangroves protect our coasts, now it’s our turn to protect them.’

Mangrovedopsi is a project I started with a deep passion for nature, sustainability, and community-driven impact. My name is Demi Klerkx, and I am dedicated to restoring mangrove ecosystems in Semarang, Indonesia, while raising awareness about their importance worldwide.

What began as a school project during my master’s in Project Management quickly turned into something much bigger. As part of the program, we were challenged to make a positive impact on the world. I immediately knew I wanted to focus on mangrove restoration, an idea I had already considered during my bachelor’s. Together with four other students, I launched this initiative, and our efforts were recognized with a perfect score (10) and an award for the best project management approach.

After completing the course, I decided to continue and turn Mangrovedopsi into an official foundation. From managing the project to running the marketing and outreach, I now oversee every aspect to ensure its success.
